My mission is to help as many people understand physics as possible, and my 20 years of teaching experience aids me in that goal.

My first degree is in Physics from Bristol University, and my PhD, from Cardiff University, was about using plasmas to etch semiconductors; knowledge I used during my time in industry. I’m also a member of the Institute of Physics.

I love astronomy, walking the dogs Belle, Barney, and Boo, riding my horse, called Hope, and creating art in a myriad of mediums.

I have over 30 years of teaching, and am the only other tutor at 42tutoring. Mostly teaching year 12 while Alison teaches year 13.

I’m originally from Manchester, and studied at Cambridge, graduating in 1982.

One of my passions is an ancient Austin 10 car, and I have 2 poodle dogs called Ollie and Penny.

A fun and entertaining style helps to make my teaching energetic, and top notch.

I have a decade of experience teaching and/or working with young people, and I believe all learning should be fun and engaging. Something that the tutors here are also highly passionate about.

Having a first in Musical Theatre, I love the stage, and understand the necessity of the arts in building confidence and self expression. Especially for those more science minded.

You can usually find me at band practice, reading snuggled up to my dog Boo, or in my recording booth, narrating an audiobook.

I’m mainly behind the scenes (which is a bit different from what I’m used to), doing all the little bits to help things run smoothly. Although you might spot me in the odd Masterclass, or Social Media post. I’ve got my thumbs in all the pies!

I have extensive backgrounds in sport, academia and coaching. Firstly, let’s talk sport! I have won multiple national, European and even a world title in Karate. More recently I have taken up Golf which as you can guess requires quite a bit of understanding physics to ‘perfect’ my swing!

Alongside my sporting career, I have an undergraduate degree, a master’s degree, and I am nearing completion of my PhD, which is investigating how to reduce concussion risk in elite female rugby. Interesting stuff for those egg chasers out there!

I have been lucky enough to work in professional sport with Gloucester Hartpury and Newcastle United in a research or coaching capacity. This requires understanding and applying the principles of physics! That gravity goblin can be used to your advantage when you understand which vectors and levers you are training.

My role at 42tutoring is to show struggling students the help we can bring them. This frees up our tutors’ time so they can focus their efforts on our students. After all, our tutors are the best in the biz!
